The DA selected Mokgalapa, a member of parliament, for the position over the weekend.However, it is not certain whether the EFF, the DA's coalition partners in the city, will accept Mokgalapa.
"We don't even know the guy," the EFF's leader in the city, Moafrika Mabogoane, said, according to The Citizen.This follows Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga's decision to resign in order to devote all his attention to running for the position of Gauteng premier.
Mokgalapa, who the DA wants to fill Msimanga's vacant position, has served as acouncillor in Tshwane for nine years and is currently the shadow minister of international relations and cooperation. Mokgalapa also has a political science background, as well as an honours degree in economics.
Mokgalapa expressed confidence in his ability to lead, saying that he is well-versed in how local government works.
