EFF student leader in hot water after wearing defence force uniform on live TV

The SANDF has released a statement saying anyone who is not a member found wearing its uniform will be committing an offence and could face prosecution.

This follows EFF student leader, Aseza Mayaphi, appearing on television donning the uniform.The military has come out in response to an EFF student leader who appeared on television wearing part of the SANDF uniform on Monday.

EFF student command secretary, Aseza Mayaphi, recently spoke to the eNCA at the University of the Western Cape. The EFF leader had been giving an interview about the party's 'Sizofunda ngenkani' campaign, which aims to ensure students have access to higher education.

The South African National Defence Force has since released a statement reminding members of the public that wearing the uniform while not a part of the Force, was illegal and would be subject to prosecution.The SANDF confirmed that the 'young man' who had appeared in the interview was indeed 'not a SANDF member'.

SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini addressed the issue, saying:“The SANDF further reiterates that wearing the SANDF uniform when you are not a SANDF member is a punishable offence and anyone who is caught committing this illegal act will be prosecuted,” READ ALSO: Mokonyane: Inquiry violated rights by not informing her of Agrizzi's testimonyThe registrar of the university had revealed that although 40 000 application for the 2019 academic year, but only 4 500 applicants could be accommodated at the university.
