The IEC has released its results against the party candidates brought before it, the body has dismissed all but one objection.Parties can breathe a sigh of relief as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) released its results against some 52 candidate objections across ten parties.
On Tuesday morning, 9 April 2019, the IEC announced that they had dismissed all 51 objections against party candidates. IEC chairperson Masotho Moepya said they had only passed one objection which came from the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) against its own candidate, Alton Mpethi, who was criminally convicted.Out of the ten parties, the African National Congress (ANC) received the most objections, with 29 candidates, followed by the Black First Land First (BLF) with 19.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) faced 13 objections, while the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Land Party each faced 4 objections. The rest of the parties, consisting of the African Content Movement (ACM), the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), the African Independent Congress (AIC), and the Alliance for Transformation for All (ATA) all faced one objection each.
