World Bank data indicates that South Africa has the highest level of inequality in the world when it was compared to 149 other countries.

According to the WB, more than half of the country live below the national poverty line and the chronically poor group is almost exclusively made up of black and coloured South Africans. These statistics are shocking, but probably not that surprising for people who live in South Africa where shacks right next to modern highways and people begging on the street is part of our daily lives.

The debate in South Africa on land expropriation has centred on the premise that poverty among blacks in South Africa is the result of white domination of land ownership resulting from apartheid policies.
