Police Minister Bheki Cele's office has confirmed that it received info on the claims of an assassination threat against Julius Malema that would have been carried out at the State of The Nation Address on the 7th of February. The Ministry of Police confirmed that information was received about the claims of a planned assassination against leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema.
However, Reneilwe Serero, Bheki Cele's spokesperson, could not divulge when the police received this information.I can confirm that the ministry of police has received information on a threat on the CIC of the EFF. I can only confirm the office receiving the threat, As for the timeline, I am not at liberty to say.
All that is known about the time the info was given to the police is that it was before the 7th of February.The alleged assassination was planned to take place at #SONA2019, according to a report by TimesLIVE. The claims of an assassination attempt came after a member of the EFF and head of the party's security, Marshall Dlamini, got into a physical altercation with a policeman during the State of The Nation Address.Briefly.co.za reported that the EFF claimed the scuffle between Dlamini and the police officer had been in self-defence.
Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF spokesperson, released a statement explaining their side of the story: "The EFF has received media enquiries regarding an assassination threat on the life of the CIC [commander-in-chief] Julius Malema, which had been planned to be executed during the 2019 State of the Nation Address yesterday." READ ALSO: Ramaphosa says the discovery of gas on SA coast is a game-changer According to News24, Ndlozi claimed that the Parliamentary Security Service has been infiltrated by these 'groups' and had chosen the SONA to 'assassinate' Malema: "The security threat implicates elite members of the police, who are in collaboration with right-wing groups to take the life of the CIC, in an attempt to undermine the advances on the expropriation of land without compensation discourse, that will soon be law." It is believed that an investigation into the claims of assassination is ongoing.
