South Africa: President Ramaphosa Wins Stay on Public Protector's Remedial Action

Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has been granted his application before the Pretoria High Court to suspend Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's order for remedial action to be taken against him, relating to a donation he received towards his presidential campaign.

The R500,000 contribution was received from Bosasa - a company that has received a number of government contracts that were reportedly awarded irregularly. The Public Protector has previously found that the president misled parliament.

She recommended that the president make a full disclosure to parliament of all campaign donors and that the speaker of the national assembly and the National Prosecuting Authority look into the matter.
