Background South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on 13 February.

The SoNA is the speech given by the President at the official opening of Parliament each year. It marks the beginning of the parliamentary year and is given, in Cape Town, to a special joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament: the National Assembly (the lower House) and the National Council of Provinces (the upper House).

The President reports on the government’s progress in meeting its previous commitments and outlines the policy priorities for the coming year and beyond.
